Here’s the shorthand version of my opinion/experience with Until the Hunter by Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions:

  1. I love sad music
  2. I have no idea what I’m doing with my life
  3. I love feeling validated by Hope Sandoval
  4. Colm Ó Cíosóig is fun to spell
  5. Crying but also feeling warm and happy in the end

Here’s the longer version for those of you who are reading this while sitting on the toilet:

When I listen to the moving parts that make up Until the Hunter by Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions respectively, (Mazzy Star, My Bloody Valentine, and an appearance by Kurt Vile) it’s usually a solitary affair with lots of introspection and lying on the floor. When these parts are combined however, there is a warmer, dreamier composition that struck me initially with the feeling that Until the Hunter was meant to be listened to when you’re with somebody. After another listen and some Oreos, Until the Hunter hit me in a different way. Maybe it was the cookies, or my shoegaze/dreampop nostalgia combined with my love for Kurt Vile, but the album began to feel more comforting and whole. I felt validated while I sat there in my underpants with Oreo crumbs in my teeth. Hope Sandoval and Colm Ó Cíosóig were smiling upon me, and I fell asleep.
