Pixies have changed their sound from the days of Doolittle or even the recent Indie Cindy, yet their most recent release, Head Carrier, still feels like a collection of throwbacks. For the most part, it’s the type of album you would hear playing as you browse the CD section in FYE at your local shopping mall, but it also offers flashbacks to a time in your life when you bragged that you actually read Fight Club and didn’t just watch the movie.
In other words, Pixies continue to deliver the perfect songs to put on a mix that you give to the one cool boy in your high school. I know that 15 year old me would have texted the boy I liked asking if he enjoyed Head Carriers, and hell, 20 year old me still might give him a call and ask just because I enjoyed it so much.
