Amyl and the Sniffers got the crowd more than warmed up with ultra high energy tracks and a vintage rock performance style. One of their top tracks, “I’m Not a Loser” which includes the too-true lyrics “People look at me like I’m a hooker, but I just wanna be a venue booker” hits home for many of the badass and accomplished women in music who are assumed to just be groupies. It also is representative of a power driven set delivered by an opening band that will probably be headlining the next time they roll around Chicago.

As expected, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard delivered a nonstop set that flowed so seamlessly that the venue security didn’t realize that we were in the photo pit for four songs instead of the standard three. The crowd, which included a lot of creative home-made Gizz shirts and sweaty teens, matched the band’s energy from the lobby to the top rows of the balcony. At the end of the set, members from Chicago favorites Whitney and Mild High Club were brought on stage to perform with King Gizz.
